In order for a community to continue to
grow and prosper, it must have citizen who are willing to volunteer their time
and energy to Make Stillwater Run. There are around five National
volunteers, Americorps Members, working within several non-profits here in
Stillwater. Citizens Helping Citizens is what it is all about.
Many small communities have begun to realize the effectiveness of distributing information through their websites to keep their citizens well informed. Even though information is readily availabe over the Internet these days, not all people know how to retreive it. Unlike the younger generation who grew up knowing what "surfing the web with your mouse" and "Increasing your hard drive" really means, many older adults from 40 to 100 years-of-age don't know whether to buy a surf board or a new car. Stillwater, Oklahoma remains on the leading edge with the help of several volunteers and non-profits, such as the Southwest Society on Aging. This organization with the help of an Americorps Volunteer is creating Technology Learning Centers for older adults through various locations within Stillwater. If you are interested in donating equipment, software, or your skills to teach others how to use computers, please call (405) 744-7511. |
