We are a vibrant city of approximately 50,000 residents, conveniently located just 20 miles east of I-35, one hour from Oklahoma City and Tulsa and one and a half hours from Wichita, Kansas.

The department is a full-service law enforcement agency with 80 sworn officers and 45 civilian support employees who provide 24/7 police services.

Beginning salaries for police officer recruits are as follows:
Starting Salary Range: $49,293–$55,496 (Plus benefits)
Salary Range after 3.5 Years: $61,742–$64,887 (Plus benefits)
Applicants may qualify for additional pay based on college education, specialty assignments, longevity pay, holiday pay, overtime assignments, cleaning allowances and performance bonuses.

The Stillwater PD selection process is designed to select the most qualified applicant.
Basic qualifications include the following:
Must be 21 years of age for police officer applicants; 18 for other positions
No felony convictions
No convictions for crimes of moral turpitude
No convictions of domestic violence
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
To ensure the best candidate is selected, the process is extensive and is outlined below:
Initial application
Written examination
Physical agility testing (Police officer applicants only)
Oral interview board
Comprehensive background investigation
Psychological testing
Polygraph examination
Police pension medical examination (Police officer applicants only)
Pre-employment drug screen
Interview with chief of police
Note: Applicants are not automatically disqualified for information pertaining to employment history, driving record, criminal history and drug use; however, any false information, misstatements or omission of material facts may result in disqualification.
New officers receive initial training through the Oklahoma Police Academy. Upon completion of the CLEET Academy’s 18-week program, new officers must complete SPD’s Recruit Training Program (18 weeks) and Field Training and Evaluation Program (15 weeks). After completion of the probationary period, new officers are eligible to apply for specialized assignments in addition to regular duties.
