Loren Smith, Electric Utility Director
The Stillwater Electric Utility (SEU) is currently replacing wood pole structures with steel pole structures on certain sections of its 69,000 volt loop around the City.
Each pole is approximately 80’ in length. The location of the pole changes can mostly be viewed on Western road between Lakeview and Hall of Fame.
The SEU is working to replace approximately 51 poles in this area. Over the years this section of the system has been susceptible to high wind damages.
Steel poles are much stronger, can support more weight, are more resistant to wind shear, and are not flammable making them a perfect fit for this, and other sections of line in the loop.
This project must coordinate with the operation of our transmission system. The pole replacements can only occur when loading conditions allow brief transmission outages. Work will progress as quickly as possible.
Sep. 17, 2018: Crews have replaced a majority of the wood structures along Western road. They will continue to work to the south, as time and workload permit.
Nov. 17, 2018: Project Completed.
