(Stillwater, OK) — For the 40^th consecutive year, the City of Stillwater’s Finance department has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).

“The exceptional financial reporting award recognizes the long-time commitment the City has with tax payers,” Chief Finance Officer and Deputy City Manager Melissa Reames explained. “We are holistically committed to being good stewards with tax payer funds and utilizing every dollar efficiently and effectively for the betterment of our community.”

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment for a government and its management.

“Congratulations to our entire finance team for the outstanding work they do for our community,” Stillwater City Manager Norman McNickle said. “They have continued an amazing legacy of success by the City’s finance department.”

The honor was based on the annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2021. The report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users to read the report.
