Helpful tips for the Fourth of July

Released:Jul 02, 2021

ANNOUNCEMENT

(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA / July 2, 2021) – The Fourth of July is almost here! From the Chickasaw Boomer Blast Fireworks Show to at-home celebrations, here are some reminders from the City to help you have a safe and fun holiday weekend.

  1. Parking is not allowed at Boomer Lake Park after 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 4. Check out the Boomer Blast Map to see a list of available parking areas. Visit the Boomer Blast event page for more information about one of the best attended fireworks shows in the region.

  2. Bringing a bike or stroller to Boomer Blast? The Bicycle Pedestrian Ad Hoc Committee (BPAC) will be offering free and secure bike and stroller parking at Boomer Lake.

  3. Fireworks can be scary for pets. According to Dr. Kris Hiney, an Equine Extension Specialist at OSU and accomplished dog trainer, many dogs have sound sensitivities or phobias which can create extreme fear reactions. This may cause a dog to run away, become stressed, or react differently toward strangers, children, and other dogs (even if you normally have a peaceful pet). If you are going somewhere with fireworks, consider leaving your furry friends at home.

  4. It is illegal to purchase, sell, possess or use fireworks in Stillwater city limits. See City Code Article IV for more information.

  5. City offices will be closed on Monday, July 5. Trash and recycling will be collected as usual, but not yard waste. Make sure to have your cart to the curb by 6 a.m.
