MEDIA RELEASE
(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA / June 8, 2021) – The Stillwater City Council announced Monday following an executive session that it had reached a separation agreement with City Attorney John Dorman. The resignation is effective June 30.
Dorman has served as Stillwater City Attorney for more than 18 years. The Council announced that Assistant City Attorney Kimberly Carnley will serve as interim City attorney.
“We appreciate John’s service to the citizens of Stillwater and wish him well,” said Stillwater Mayor Will Joyce. “He has provided valuable counsel during a time of significant progress. However, the Council unanimously agreed it is time to move in a different direction.”
Joyce said the Council will immediately begin a comprehensive search to fill the position.
“The City Attorney plays a key role in guiding and supporting the City as it carries out its mission to build a vibrant community for every citizen through efficient services, shared spaces and smart planning,” Joyce said.
The City Attorney’s Office provides all legal services to the mayor and City Council, municipal trusts, authorities, boards and commissions established under state statute, city charter and city ordinance, and city administration.
