MEDIA RELEASE
(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA / June 5, 2020) – Stillwater Electric Utility responded to a power outage.
Outage
At approximately 2:53 p.m. on June 4, 2020 while performing routine circuit switching to prevent an overload due to extreme heat electric crews encountered unexpected issues in the field. These issues, which have been determined to be related to excessive current flow, caused a sequence of disruptions on the two circuits involved in the switching.
Excessive current caused a circuit breaker in the 19th avenue Substation and Boomer Lake Substation to open and close several time between the periods of 2:53 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Approximately 3800 customers were affected.
