Intersection Improvements at Western and Hall of Fame - The current configuration of the intersection of Hall of Fame at Western Road makes it very difficult for through traffic on Western. The portion of Western on the north side if the intersection is controlled by a stop sign. The amount of traffic on Hall of Fame makes access very difficult. The curve of the road between Western on the south and Hall of Fame to the east also makes access to Western on the north very hazardous.
Traffic on Western approaching the intersection from the north has increased over the last several years. In 1995 Western carried 3,700 vehicles per day. Today, Western carries nearly 5,500 vehicles. Traffic has also increased on Hall of Fame. In 1998, 14,000 vehicles per day used Hall of Fame. Today, the usage has increased to 17,000. This results in more drivers wanting to access Hall of Fame from the north on Western, while there is more traffic on Hall of Fame making access even more difficult and dangerous.
The improvements at this the intersection of Western and Hall of Fame include the construction of left turn lanes on both Western and Hall of Fame. A traffic signal would also be installed with protected left turn signals serving the new lanes.
Growth is continuing in the north and west portions of Stillwater. Enrollment at OSU is also increasing. The traffic on both Western and Hall of Fame will also continue to increase. The intersection now serves more than 22,000 drivers each day. This project will provide easier and much safer access for these drivers.
