Who We Are -- We are a citizen member advisory board for the City of Stillwater, Oklahoma who is charged with implementing the City of Stillwater's Community Forest Plan. The Board consists of 7 citizen members appointed by the Mayor of Stillwater and approved by the City Commission, and 4 City of Stillwater personnel who are in departments which deal with management of urban trees. These departments include Public Works, the Stillwater Electric Utility, Parks and Recreation, and the Community Development Department.
The Stillwater Tree Board was initiated by a City of Stillwater ordinance in 1992. Since its beginnings the Tree Board has expanded its programs and tree planting efforts to include an annual Arbor Day Celebration, an annual volunteer recognition ceremony, a Street Tree and Utility Line Tree Replacement program, a neighborhood planting program (Stillwater Neighborwoods), several seasonal public tree planting projects, and participation a the Spring Home and Garden Show. These are only a few of the projects the Tree Board has developed.
